Nolan’s Knowledge
Future alums: “Don’t you forget about Chadwick”
By Nolan Maier ’08

As we seal and stamp our final college decisions and life spreads us to the far corners of the globe, I would like to add my congratulations to the many acceptances that you, dear seniors, have already received.

Congratulations on beating car counts and staying awake (mostly) during assemblies.

Congratulations on not starving in long cafeteria lines and enduring constant lawn rope-offs.

Congratulations on memorizing a plethora of names, dates, times and equations over four years of hard work.

Congratulations on college admits and becoming intelligent young men and women.

Most of all, congratulations on graduating.

We will leave our old comfort zones and safety nets to embark on a new journey.

Our time here has almost drawn to a close, yet our voyage of self-discovery and curiosity will continue beyond Chadwick’s gates.

I implore you, my fellow seniors: do not forget about this place. Do not forget the numerous friends and wonderful experiences gained here. Although you go on to bigger and greater settings always take a moment to appreciate what brought you there.

This is no ordinary place. I know we have heard that time and time again, but it’s true. This is so much more than a school. It is a collection of amazing people that share a common love for this community, its mission and all that this place stands for.

We soon enter into a new relationship with our beloved school: alumni. This honored position is just as important to the school as its students. Our alumni carry the Chadwick name into the world. They expand the school’s reputation and promote the school in their every action. The success of this place is inherently tied to the success of its alumni, both in the professional world and the private one.

As alumni, we have a responsibility to represent the best that Chadwick offers to the world. We have a responsibility to provide a good example for current students in our conduct and actions, and to give back to society that has given so much to each of us over the years.

Whether through volunteering, donations, participating in alumni events or simply the occasional visit or word of advice, we should help fellow and future Chadwick students whenever possible.

We are part of community that extends beyond the current students and faculty, a communications that includes all future and past students no matter how distant their relationship with this place.

We have a responsibility to appreciate the efforts of those that came before us in this community and to help in whatever way possible those that come after us.
